Regarding World Wars Memorial. The HMS Good Hope was sunk in the Battle of Coronel, a World War I Imperial German Naval victory over the British fought on November 1, 1914 off the coast of central Chile near the city of Coronel. German Kaiserliche Marine forces led by Vice-Admiral Graf Maximilian von Spee met and defeated a Royal Navy squadron commanded by Rear-Admiral Sir Christopher Cradock. Some 1,600 men were lost by the British on that day, including these men from Saint Lucia.
