The Brigade advanced about 5 o'clock from the glade 7oo yards east of this point, with Govan's Brigade on its left, and occupied this position without opposition.

It was at once subjected to a heavy artillery fire from the left and also from a battery of Dan McCook's Brigade posted some 800 yards to the right and front.

Soon after Turchin's Brigade of Reynold's Division, supported by Robinson's (King's) Brigade of the same Division, which were withdrawing from the south end of the Kelly field, swept out of the woods west of the LaFayette road along Govan's and Walthall's fronts, capturing a portion of their skirmish line, and obliging both brigades to retire in some confusion to the forest east of the LaFayette road. More about this marker. In locating this tablet I used the "Chickamauga Battlefield" map, that I purchased at the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, Visitor Center, to determine both the marker number for this tablet and the tablet's location in relation to the rest of the park's monuments, markers, and tablets. According to the map it provides the, "numerical listing of all monuments, markers, and tablets on the Chickamauga Battlefield (using the Chick-Chatt NMP Monument Numbering System).”
