Considered the father of Rock Creek Park and the National Zoo, Washington banker and philanthropist Charles Carroll Glover (1846-1936) also gave Washington, D.C. 77 acres in the valley of Foundry Branch, just west of this neighborhood. With an additional 28 acres donated by Anne Archbold, this area became known as Glover Archbold Park. This bas relief of Mr. Glover was created by the sculptor of the World War II Memorial on the National Mall.
