Inscription. Baltimore County Historic Landmark-Dedicated by Simon J. Martenet 1874.

This plot of land is Parkville’s namesake and was given to the people of Parkville by Simon J. Martenet with the stipulation that it always remain a park. Martenet, a notable surveyor and civil engineer, is best known for his comprehensive mapping of the State of Maryland. He described this area as: “One of the healthiest and pleasantest locations near Baltimore.”

In 1998 this park was placed on the Baltimore County final landmarks list as an historic site.
