Resolution Adopted by the Board of Aldermen of the City of St. Louis on September 17, 2017


Whereas, in honor of over 40 years of the Hispanic/Latino cultural economic contributions to the revitalization of Cherokee Street and the surrounding neighborhoods; and

Whereas, Cherokee Street is home to the largest concentration of Hispanic/Latino owned and operated bakeries, restaurants, shops and groceries in St. Louis City; and

Whereas, Cherokee Street is one of the most proudly diverse business districts in the City of St. Louis and a pillar of the revival of South City; and

Now therefore be it resolved by the Board of Aldermen of the City of St. Louis, on behalf of the entire citizenry of the City of St. Louis, we hereby pause in our deliberations to celebrate and commemorate the contributions of all residents and business owners of Hispanic/Latino descent and recognize the importance of promoting and preserving that heritage through and honorary designation of Cherokee Street as, "Calle Cherokee."

En cuanto que: Cherokee Street es hogar a la concentración más grande de panaderías, restaurantes, tiendas y mercados de dueños hispanicos/latinos; y

En cuanto a que: Cherokee Street es uno de los distritos de negocios más orgullosamente diversos en la Ciudad de St. Louis, y un pilar del renacimiento del sure de St. Louis; y

En cuanto a que: Para celebrar y conmemorar las contribuicones de todos los residentes y negociante de descendencia hispanica/latina, y para reconocer, promover y presevar esta herencia, se hace una designación honoraria de Cherokee Street como "Calle Cherokee."
