Inscription.  The Navy has a treasured aeronautical history. Important early activities included the first shipboard catapult test in 1912, the establishment of the world's largest wind tunnel by the Navy's Aerodynamics Laboratory, and the large wooden scale models tested during World War I. In 1939, the Navy's Aerodynamics Laboratory outgrew their space and was relocated.
