1. Herndon's First Church Marker
Inscription. Constructed in 1872 for a North Methodist Episcopal congregation, this building ushered in a church building period in Herndon. By 1915 six churches served Herndon's growing population around its historic center. After 67 years at this location and with Civil War divisions subsiding over time, the congregation merged with the South Methodist Episcopal church on Spring Street. This building later became an American Legion Post then a warehouse before returning to church use in 1976.
