The Woman’s Club of Fords. . , In October 1920, ten women met at the home of Mrs. Annie Hope Liddle for the purpose of organizing a Fords branch of the Woodbridge Woman’s Club., They were assisted in their efforts by WWC president Mrs. E.H. Boynton. The object of the Fords club was to be, and still is, “to provide as organization through which women from all walks of life, putting aside personal prejudice, may work towards community betterment.” Mrs. T.W. Liddle became the club’s first president. In 1924 the Woman’s Club of Fords was accepted into the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs as an independent club., During its early years, before public relief was instituted, the main activity of the Club was helping the poor. Projects included distribution of food and clothing, payment of rent and doctor bills and creation of a milk fund for indigent families. The club women also made and served hot coffee and sandwiches to firemen during large fires., The Club’s major achievement was the 1924 creation of a community library for Fords residents, equipped with 400 books and $25 worth of supplies.
