Regarding The Old Rendón Peniche Sanitorium.
This building was built in 1920 as a hospital for railroad workers. It was named after José Rendón Peniche, the main promoter of railroads in Mérida. He was born in Mérida on February 2, 1829. After graduating from the Conciliar Seminary of San Ildefonso in Mexico City, his life turned to politics when he was appointed by Santa Anna as an administrator on the Isla del Carmen. He was later mayor of the City of Mérida.
The building was designed by the architect Manuel Amabilis in a style known as Neo-Maya, which also includes other buildings such as the Casa del Pueblo (House of the People) and the Diario de Yucatán Building.
Since 2004 the building has housed the Social Sciences and Humanities Section of the Mérida branch of the National Autonomous University of Mexico.
