Welcome to the Ambush Site at Beal na Blath, where General Michael Collins, "Commander-in-Chief" of The Irish Army, was assassinated on 22nd August 1922.

Michael Collins and his party left Cork City at approximately 6am that morning, on a tour of WEST CORK.

On their return journey to Cork City, through this valley at approximately 8 pm, the party was ambushed by Anti-Treaty Forces, who had a roadblock in place.

After an exchange of gunfire between both parties General Michael Collins was shot at this spot.
