Inscription.
Shepherd’s, one of the oldest batteries in the fort, guarded its western end.

More about this marker. On the left is a photo with the caption, "A 10-inch Columbiad like this damaged one was at Shepherd’s. This old smoothbore fired a 130-pound round ball 3 miles."

On the upper right is a photo with the caption, "This is how the interior of Shepherd’s may have appeared. Note the stacked ammunition."

On the bottom is a drawing with the caption, "This gun was once a 32-pounder smoothbore. It was rifled and banded to fire a 60-pound projectile 5 miles with more accuracy."
