Regarding W. Kerr Scott. William Kerr Scott was born on April 17, 1896 in Haw River, North Carolina. Scott attended public schools in Hawfields, N.C. and graduated from North Carolina State College at Raleigh in 1917.

He served during the First World War as a private in the Field Artillery, United States Army in 1918.

He was a member of the Democratic Party in North Carolina. He was the 62nd Governor of North Carolina from 1949 until 1953 and a United States Senator from 1954 until 1958.

Gov. Scott died April 16, 1958 in Burlington, North Carolina. He is buried in Hawfields Presbyterian Church Cemetery near Mebane, N.C.
