1. Agricultural Hall Marker

Agricultural Hall. . On this site stood the agricultural and horticultural hall, built between 1867 and 1868 as part of the Adams County Agricultural Society's fairgrounds. For some nineteen years, the hall also served as the town's civic center where public lectures, plays, recitals, dances, and meetings were held. With the sale of the fairgrounds in 1886, the hall was converted to apartments and enlarged to accommodate hosiery and box factories between 1890 and 1908. The hall was razed in 1991.
One of the most famous significant events took place in the hall on 25 January, 1869, when the renowned African-American orator, Frederick Douglass, spoke to a "large and appreciative audience."
