More about this monument. Two 24-pounder naval cannons flank the monument. Both cannons were made in 1846 by C.A. & Co. (Cyrus Alger & Company) Boston and inspected by J.W.R., James Wolfe Ripley, an Army inspector from 1832-1863. The northern cannon has registry number 98 and weighs 1,475 pounds; the southern cannon has registry number 93 and weighs 1,476 pounds.
