This photo was taken in the 1800s of the 2 block area on the south side of the square before the first courthouse was constructed in the center.

1900 photo is taken of a pre-celebration of the Allen County Fair. The crowd is lined across Madison Avenue to watch the turtle race. The photo was taken directly in front of the New York Store, which is now the Allen County Historical Society. The photo view is to the southeast.
