The muffled drum’s
sad roll has beat
the soldiers last tattoo
no more on life’s parade
shall meet
the fallen brave and true
on fame’s eternal
camping ground
their silent tents are spread
and glory guards
with solemn round
the bivouac of the dead

By the services
of the Union soldiers
all persons
of the United States

and every star retained
on the Nation’s flag.
