Regarding General Rigoberto Cabezas. Rigoberto Cabezas (Cartago, Costa Rica, August 4, 1860 - Masaya, Nicaragua, August 21, 1896) was a journalist, soldier and politician in Nicaragua. He is recognized as the founder of journalism in Nicaragua because on March 1, 1884, in the city of Granada, he founded the "Diario de Nicaragua", the first newspaper in the history of this Central American country.

He is honored as a National Hero of Nicaragua because while serving as the Inspector General of the Army in the Mosquitia Region during the government of José Santos Zelaya, he ordered the reinstatement of the Mosquitia (Caribbean Coast of Nicaragua) on February 12, 1894 as a part of Nicaragua. This disavowed the legitimacy of the Misquito King then serving British interests and enlarged the national territory of Nicaragua by more than 50,000 square kilometers. This bold move was finally formally recognized in 1905 through the Altamirano-Harrison Treaty.
