Regarding First Cathedral in Guatemala City. Guatemala City became the capital of Guatemala in 1776 after a series of earthquakes led authorities to move from Santiago de los Caballeros (today La Antigua Guatemala). This church was completed in 1786 and was near to the central park, so it was used as the Catholic cathedral from 1787 until 1815. At that time construction was completed on the current cathedral on the central plaza.
