1. Speed Cabin Marker
Inscription. Site of house reputed to be a stop on the "Underground Railroad." Reconstructed cabin, which was portion of house owned by John Allen Speed, now located on grounds of Lane mansion. Speed, active in abolitionist movement, was Mayor of Crawfordsville, 1868 - 1869.
 
Erected 1995 by Indiana Historical Bureau and Montgomery County Community Foundation. (Marker Number 54.1995.1.)

2. Speed Cabin Marker and Location
The property is now a play ground for the area. The Cabin was moved to "Lane Place" to allow for the play ground and to allow the Speed Cabin more viewing by the history minded citizens.
