Regarding The San Blas Battalion. The San Blas Battalion was originally formed as a Coast Guard unit in 1823 after Mexican independence. It is most famous for its participation in the Battle of Chapultepec in Mexico City on September 13, 1847. In its defense of the Chapultepec Castle almost the entire battalion of 300 was killed, wounded or captured.
