Additional commentary.
1.
Alexander Scott (1774-1847) came to Chazy from Alburgh, Vermont, around 1809. He ran a store in Chazy as well as other businesses, including the limestone quarry that provided stone for the town's first Methodist church. The house was constructed ca. 1810 and is perhaps the most sophisticated example of Federal period architecture in the town of Chazy. The broad fanlight above the front entrance, decorative quoins, and Palladian window would have distinguished it from the more modest homes of the time.
