The Baptist Children's Village
Caring For Mississippi Children Since 1897
Reverend L.S.Foster of Senatobia, the Founding Father of The Baptist Children's Village, sought the Lord's direction in providing a safe place for Mississippi children who needed a place to grow spiritually as well as physically.
Reverend Foster offered a plea in The Baptist Record: "If this thought is of God, He will put it into the heart of some person to send a contribution for this cause"
A failing health later forced him to resign as the first Superintendant of the then "Baptist Orphanage", he penned these words: "We now bid you an affectionate good-bye, but this is God's work. He inspired, built and directed. We were simply His instruments."
Since that plea, indeed countless Mississippi Baptists have cared for hurting children in Mississippi through their gifts, their time and their prayers allowing the ministry to grow into a statewide mission.
The name of the organization was changed in 1961 to "The Baptist Children's Village" to ore accurately depict the type of care provided and depict the clients served. Believing, as Rev. Foster did, that this is indeed "God's Work," selfless churches have continually provided
a S.A.F.E. place for thousands of children, ensuring that Spiritual, Academic, Family and Emotional needs are met for each one of them.Erected by Mississippi Baptist Historical Commission.
