1. Christopher Columbus King, Sr. - A Member of Hopewell Baptist Church
Christopher Columbus King, Sr., was the oldest of the seven children of Thomas and Eliza Jane (Fant) King, and a descendant of Robert King, one of Anderson's original settlers. Born on November 13, 1847, King served in the final year of the Civil War. During the war, he began to suffer from chronic dysentery, an illness which plagued him for the rest of his life.
After his father's death in 1871, King ran the family farm with his mother. He married Margaret Ellen Jolly in 1874 and established his own farm. Jane King passed away in 1888. His success as a farmer was widely known. He served as treasurer of Hopewell Baptist Church, a deacon, and a magistrate.
