Maurice Edward Frock. Frock enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1916. During World War I, he served in France with the 5th Marine Regiment. In June, 1918, he was detached from his company to serve at battalion headquarters. Frock earned two silver star medals for heroism. The first was for being among a team of messengers running dispatches across the battlefield at Château-Thierry from June 6 to 10. During the battle of Belleau Wood on June 12, he was delivering an important dispatch through a heavy bombardment of German artillery fire when he was killed in action. His remains were buried on the battlefield. The French Republic awarded Private Frock the Croix de Guerre medal for his valor.
