Historical marker dedicated to Pocahontas High School in Powhatan. 2015 article by John Reid Blackwell in the Richmond Times-Dispatch. “Janet Carter, a member of the Pocahontas High School Class of 1967, remembers the rural school in Powhatan County as a gathering place for the community and social events, and a good place to attend school. Demetrius Venable was in the Class of 1966 and now teaches at Howard University in Washington. He grew up next door to Pocahontas, so it was home, and a playground, and a school, he said. Both of them visited the school again Saturday for the unveiling of a state historical marker commemorating its history. About 100 Pocahontas High School graduates and other guests, students and teachers attended the event.” (Submitted on August 31, 2017.)
