1. The Lux Building Marker
Inscription. Originally built as a one-story building at the NE corner, and later that decade, a second story was added. On July 16, 1988, a stolen '88 Buick ran three red lights on northbound Woodward and broadsided an eastbound Pontiac at E. Nine Mile Rd. The force of the impact was so great it cut the Pontiac in half. The back half of the car, with the gas tank attached, crashed through the Lux Building and burst into flames. Damage was so severe that the building was demolished.
