This monument
is erected to honor
and perpetuate the
memory of
Capt. Joel Cook


A brave solider who served in the
American Army throughout the
Revolutionary War, and who also
recruited and commanded a company
in the War of 1812.
Born at Wallingford Conn. Oct. 12, 1760,
died at Babylon, L.I. Dec. 8, 1851,
his patriotism, heroism, and
manly virtues merit emulation
by the present and future
generations.

More about this monument. The marker is located in the southeast corner of Argyle Park. There is a parking lot close to the monument, but this is best accessed when heading west on Montauk Highway (from the village), as making a left turn into the lot when heading east may be difficult due to the traffic.


The monument was originally located on the grounds of the old Babylon High School.
