1. Meeting House Marker

Inscription. Charlotte Meeting House was built by the community's Methodist congregation. The building's architectural details reflect Greek design influences, including the triangular pediment created by cornice moldings. During the building's 112-year history it served as a church, a theatrical playhouse, and the town's library, before suffering damage during a windstorm in 1950. Charlotte residents then voted to sell the Meeting House to the Museum to preserve the structure. As a part of the restoration, the Museum introduced trompe l'œil ("deceives the eye") interior painting details that mimic paneled woodwork. The building features a music installation Green Mountain Medley: 200 Years of Music Made in Vermont.
