Inscription. The difficult work of mining required the use of many rugged and reliable tools that could stand up to the physical demands of day-to-day use. It was also a necessity to have equipment that was simple enough to be repaired and maintained on site. hence the value of a good blacksmith and his tools. Blacksmiths also shod horses and mules, repaired wagons and carriages and occasionally pulled a tooth or two before the dentist moved to town.
