San Cristobal de las Casas fue fundada por el Capitan Don Diego de Mazariegos, el 31 de marzo del año de 1528 con el nombre de Villa Real.

Hizo su entrada a esta ciudad el 12 de marzo de 1545.
El 12 de septiembre de 1824 fue declarada unida a Mexico la Provincia de Las Chiapas siendo capital de la misma San Cristobal de las Casas.
El 18 de mayo de 1828 se fundo en esta ciudad la primera Escuela Normal de America.
