1. Matlock - Brownfield Bldg Marker

Inscription. Built in 1904 and exemplifying the Georgian architectural style, this building is 90' deep by 100' wide. There are five commercial bays with one still retaining the original cast iron columns. There were eleven evenly-spaced one-over-one double-hung window that were capped with simple stone lintels. The parapet includes recessed panels and pilasters that extend into chimney flues. The ground floor façade has undergone restoration to harken back to the original style. The second floor has been home to several different fraternal organizations over the years. During WWII, the second floor was used as a dance hall of the service men stationed at the Pendleton Airbase - (conveniently located near many of the bordellos in town...).
Rader's Furniture (and Casket sales at one time) Store was located on the entire first floor for many years. Later, each of the five bays became separate retail spaces. Zimmerman & Company Hardware was located in one of the store fronts in the 1950's.
