Inscription.  The ability to move large machinery was essential to assembly and manufacturing at the Naval Gun Factory, and crane systems were both inside buildings and across outdoor spaces of the yard to coordinate numerous manufacturing efforts. They facilitated the lifting and positioning of individual components and allowed assemblies to take place in multiple locations. The craneways of the Gun Park and the Steel Foundry were built between 1912 and 1918.
