Regarding Julia de Burgos. Julia Constancia Burgos García (February 17, 1914 - July 6, 1953), known as Julia de Burgos, was born in Carolina, Puerto Rico. She is considered by many critics as the most excellent poet born in Puerto Rico. She was also a supporter of the independence of the island. Interestingly, she is admired in the Dominican Republic for her poems against the Dominican dictator Trujillo, most notably "The Hymn of Blood for Trujillo" (Himno de Sangre a Trujillo). She died young in New York City but is buried in Carolina, Puerto Rico, her birthplace.
