1. Beckett Homesite Marker

Inscription. On this site stood a square two-story brick farmhouse occupied by Wiiliam Bebb and built in 1835. After he was elected nineteenth Governor of Ohio, William Bebb sold his house in 1848 to William Beckett, founder of Beckett Paper Company, who enjoyed the convenience to the mill (his wife objected that it was “too far out in the country.”) As the years passed, the Beckett family grew, and the house was enlarged until it was a stately three-story structure with a large attic, two-story wings on either side, a columned porch in front, and a widow’s walk on top. This spacious residence for generations of Becketts was the --- the home of Thomas Beckett 1860- 1923 (illegible) the company grew to national (illegible) manufactur- ing paper After Thomas Beckett’s wife died in 1957 the old home was razed leaving a legacy of more than a century of paper making.
