1. The Lost Palace Marker

Inscription.
In the 13th century, the Medieval Palace consisted of much more than the two towers you have just visited. The empty area in front of the White Tower is known as the Inmost Ward. Henry III had the White Tower whitened for the first time in 1241, to make it look more imposing. The 13th-century Inmost Ward was a busy complex of buildings set up to serve the royal residence. These lost buildings are shown here.

The King and his Court feasted in the Great Hall. It was also used by the Constable of the Tower and the soldiers stationed here.
