British 25 Pounder Field Gun, 1943
Introduced in 1939, the 25 Pounder was the most numerous and famous British artillery gun of the Second World War. A 25 Pounder last fired on active service with the Special Air Service at Mirbat, Oman in 1972.
The example displayed here was a saluting gun used at the Tower of London until 2001. It was in service with the Honourable Artillery Company, whose emblem appears on the shield. The motto 'Arma Pacis Fulcra' translates as 'Armed Strength for Peace'.
