Inscription.

On the base ring the maker's name and date of manufacture "S·Eccles 1854".

On the first reinforce a cypher of Queen Victoria with the words "Dieu et Mon Droit".

This translates as "God and My Rights" and was a motto of the British Monarch referring to their divine right to govern.

On the second reinforce the weight 17-2-0 (Tons - Hundredweights - Quarters)".

On the chase a cypher of Lord Raglan, a peerage created in 1852 for the military commander Lord FitzRoy Somerset, chiefly remembered as commander of the British troops in the Crimean War.

The canon is also inscribed with the words "Tria Juncta In Uno", which translates as "Three Joined In One" referring to the 3 countries that formed the UK.
