Joe's uncle, Fred, arrived in Sutton County about the time of the county's organization working on the Ft. Terrett Ranch. Joe was born in Austria and emigrated to Sonora in 1907. Married Velma Mittle in 1922. Joe and Velma made land available to Sonora for construction of the airport, golf course, city park, rodeo grounds, and 4-H building. A great supporter of the Lion's Club. Children-Wilfred, 1925-1971. Grandchildren-Christie D. and Larry Joe Berger.
