Union County’s First Courthouse. . Constructed in 1820-21, the County’s original government seat was the first frame building in Milford Center. At the time it stood at the southwest corner of the Village Square (present Mill and State Streets) just to the south of George Reed’s Mill (from which the town is named). Following the relocation of the county Seat to Marysville, the original of this building was used as a commercial building and later moved to become a residence (lived in until 1907) at what is now the vacant lot immediately to the east of 148 West State Street. In 1907 the original was restored and moved to the Union County Fairgrounds in Marysville where it was subsequently destroyed.
This replica of the original courthouse was constructed from photos and sketches, by the Village of Milford Center as a part of the celebration of Ohio’s bicentennial in 2003. The Village is indebted to the following volunteers for this construction: Maurice “Mac’ McCarty, Ronald “Red” Baker, Ron Barker, Ray Chappelear and Ronald Payne.
