1. Quarrying and Carrying Marker
Inscription. The large pieces of shale rock that were dynamited from the quarry were carried up to the top of this hill by mining carts and dumped into the crusher which pulverized these 400 pound slabs into a dusty chalk which was sent down to the Pug Mill room at the base of the hill. You may have noticed the remains of one of the carts just up the hill to your left. To reach the Pug Mill, marker number 5, continue down the roadway to your left. (Marker Number 4.)

Location. 42° 46.037′ N, 84° 45.941′ W. Marker is near Grand Ledge, Michigan, in Eaton County. Marker can be reached from unnamed park road, 0.2 miles west of Tallman Road, on the right when traveling south. Marker is in Lincoln Brick Park, about 2 miles from downtown Grand Ledge.
