1877 Fort Missoula Officers' Club. . On this site stood one of the oldest buildings of Fort Missoula. Upon the Fort's establishment in 1877, a one-story log structure was constructed for use as a laundress's quarters. The project's cost came to $450.00. According to long-time Missoula resident and Fort Missoula soldier General Walter Johnson, the edifice experienced renovation several times during the Fort's history. The building eventually found service as the Fort Missoula Officers' Club. Its tenure as a social center lasted through 1947, when the last active Army garrison departed the Fort. In 1966, a group of local active and retired military personnel reactivated the Officers' Club and continued use of the structure. , On the night of January 11, 1972, the Officers' Club burned to the ground. Fire officials estimated the cause as electrical tape improperly applied to hot water pipes. , In 2005, the Northern Rockies Heritage Center announced an intention to rebuild the Officers' Club as part of its long-term preservation effort at Fort Missoula. .
