Site of Presque Isle County Savings Bank. Historic Site No. 9. From 1910 until 1964, this site was occupied by the copper-domed Presque Isle County Savings Bank shown in the photo. Construction of the building was supervised by local lumberman and business owner Paul H. Hoeft, who had the structure placed on a diagonal to Third Street so that it faced due north. The classic structure was reportedly modeled after the Cleveland Bank and Trust Company in Cleveland, Ohio. The elegant building was demolished in 1963 to make way for construction of the present Independent Bank. ,
The Presque Isle County Historical Museum provided sign text and images. A Vibrant Small Cities Initiative (VSCI) grant from MSHDA and the City of Rogers City funded this project. The City Council and Community Development Authority jointly obtained the VSCI grant. The Design Committee developed the concept. Sign design and engineering by Harry Wierenga of Fleis and VandenBrink Engineering. Valley City Sign manufactured the signs in 2010. The Department of Public Works installed the signs in 2011..
