1. 119 South Main Marker
Inscription. "The first term of the Court of Common Pleas in and for the District of St. Charles was held on the first Tuesday in January, 1805, in the house of Dr. Antoine Reynal on the site of the present courthouse." The "present" courthouse of 1840-1904 is pictured here along with a copy of an 1847 newspaper ad for a slave sale held on the courthouse steps. This building is the 1912 Post Office built by the U.S. Government.
