1. To Count So High (Beacon), 2017 Marker

Inscription. This year marks the centennial of the first armed forces personnel qualifying for a Purple Heart. Over the last century 1.9 million Americans have been awarded a Purple Heart for loss of life or injury in combat. To Count So High honors those individuals with a softly blinking light bulb, changing from purple to white every few minutes. Over the course of one year the bulbs will have collectively transitioned 1.9 million times, with each transition marking one recipient of a Purple Heart.
