Regarding Rexford House. The Erie Canal crossed the Mohawk River by means of a aqueduct located just east of the current NY 146 bridge. The remains of the aqueduct are still visible. Cyrus Rexford operated a store and post office next to the aqueduct for travelers on the canal and the local community.
The current "Stick Style" Victorian mansion was a result of Cyrus Rexford enlarging the former farmhouse.
A excellent contemporary view of the house (ca. 1900) is available in John Scherer's Images of America, Clifton Park, Arcadia Publishing, 1996: p. 22
