1. Idaho Department Store Marker
Inscription. A retail institution in downtown Twin Falls for 81 years, the "ID" building was built in 1905. Originally known as the Allen Mercantile Co., the store was renamed the Idaho Department Store in 1908 and operated under the same name until 1986. The store was constructed with a molded-brick exterior that remains intact, though now covered. The ground floor of the "ID" sold clothing and dry goods while the basement featured a grocery store. The second floor contained the Knights of Pythias Hall, a room that was also used by the Grand Army of the Republic and Knights of Columbus. When Twin Falls County was formed in 1907, the second floor became the temporary courthouse until the present courthouse was constructed in 1911.
