Regarding Pulquería "La Risa". A "pulquería" is a type of bar or cantina that sells pulque, the fermented liquid of the maguey, a plant in the agave family. This is one of the ancestral indigenous alcoholic drinks of prehispanic Mesoamerica. Pulquerías have a long history in Mexico City and "La Risa" was one of the oldest. Although it has closed recently due to legal issues, it is hoped that one day soon it will open again. 2. Pulquería "La Risa" Marker
Note the stone image of the maguey plant and a small image of a rabbit over the entrance to the pulquería. The rabbit was an Aztec symbol for drunkenness.
