Died: December 9, 1954 in Silver Spring, MD
Elected to Hall of Fame by
Committee on Baseball Veterans: 1992
He introduced a colorful umpiring style with
vigorous, aggressive gestures which bordered on
the pugnacious – yet ejected very few players.
He was an iron man among umpires,
not missing an inning for 16 years
(2,541 consecutive
games).
