1. Carpenter Shop Site Marker

Inscription. A carpenter crew maintained Fayette's buildings. The carpenters also built and repaired wagons, carts and railroad cars and made doors, window sashes and coffins. Milled lumber was stocked in adjacent sheds.

A large woodshop, built here in 1867-68, might have housed E.H. Boehme’s photo gallery on the second floor. (Note the south-exposure skylight which could have furnished the natural lighting needed in a photo studio.)
