Welcome to Fountain Rock Lime Kilns
Photographed By Devry Becker Jones (CC0), February 9, 2019
The Fountain Rock quarry and lime kilns operated between about 1872 and 1955, producing two major products, powdered burnt lime for agricultural use and crushed stone for road surfacing. Most of the original structures and equipment are gone but remnants of both the crushed stone and powdered lime operations have survived, including six of the eight original kilns. These kilns are also referred to as continuous burning pot kilns.
For your safety and for the protection of the site, please stay on walkways. Do not go into or climb onto the structures.
